Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
Yep 'twas Gary's. Top bloke to deal with, although I think it helped that I knew a couple of the regulars on the Banger monthly meet on the HAMB.
Thanks for the pictures Van - you've convinced me that A is the way to go. I want to stay with mech brakes simply because that's what I've got and I know how they work. Gary/Rory's T so far lacks a parking brake and no easy place to put it. I've got a couple of T rear springs that I intend to use to get the back down, one flatter than the other. I'll have a play when I'm back in PHX in February and get hold of a frame. Can't wait. It's chuffing freezing here. Cheers Juggs |

Glad to see it is getting love in a new land! The whole reason I went with the A chassis was the brakes, engine, and the beefier A frame. I have had some T's and the frames are really flimsy. Not to mention the parking brake is already set up for you on the A frame. Looking forward to seeing pictures of yours.

Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
For thirty years my dream was to build a car with a 1909-'12 Ford Model T Touring body, on a Model A chassis. So it is with great admiration, respect and jealousy that I see that you have done/are doing, what I have always wanted to do, but now know that I never will.

Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
My dream for a long time has been to build a car like no other, combining the looks of an early T Roadster with the A chassis.
If I had really deep pockets, I'd start out with a superb A frame, have it media blasted, then cad-plated, topped off by brushed on Bill Hirsch black chassis paint. The A frame would have hydraulic brakes, F-1 steering box, the $19,900 Model A aluminum engine with 95 horsepower -- painted black -- coupled to a 39 Ford transmission with Zephyr gears, coupled to a Mitchell overdrive. Wheels would be 1925/'26 T wire in 21 inches, painted black. The body would be an all original, original paint T Roadster that by default would look so patinated that it would have people stop in their tracks. Upholstery would be in aged full grain black leather. To the casual observer, it would look like a stock 1915 to 1922 Model T Roadster right out of the barn. Cogniscenti would see the A-frame and conventional controls, but that's okay. With close to 100 horsepower out of the 4-banger, it would move nicely along at freeway speeds. A dream, and perhaps it will always remain one. We'll see. |

This is Gary/Rory's lined up with Mr Wells (Hotrodphil)'s 27 "Mercury" Tourer and another friend Mark's Standard Avon special powered by a Riley 2 Port
Phil's Tourer looks like Henry made it and causes a bit of head scratching Goes well too http://youtu.be/TPkAuTo_oo8 |

Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
Now that is a great group of cars! Phil and I have talked a few times on the Hamb about his car. He did a great job with it and the Avon special, what can I say other than perfection.

Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
In time yeah I think so. I had all the speed equipment for it sitting on the shelf but my wife and I got in a bit of a jam this past summer so I sold it all off to pay some bills.

I finished the car on midnight Friday and headed out Saturday morning to it's first show. Drove great and it is real fun to drive.

Re: 1930 Ford Model T roadster
Thanks, the spinners are 1957 MG. A pic from the show, can't believe how many comments it got. One kid asked if it was a fiberglass kit, one guy said it was just a stock T with the fenders removed but the best a guy who said it was nice to see a "real" roadster, he was floored when I told him it started life as a touring car.
