Default Proper Radiator Pressure for ‘53 F-100?

Hi, I own a ‘53 Mercury M-100 (equivalent to Ford F-100) with its original flathead V8 and radiator. While working on the vehicle recently, I noted the radiator cap (which appears to be an after market replacement) is rated for 13 lbs. After doing some research, I believe this is the incorrect pressure and likely too high. Looks like perhaps I should be running either 4 or 7 lbs, based on searching some of the early ford v-8 parts suppliers. Can someone on the forum please confirm the proper spec pressure so I can replace my cap with a correct part? Thank you.

I think this depends on the condition of your radiator. If it's original I'd go with the 4 lb unit. However, if you've had i tested then the 7lb one can be used I also run a 180 stat operating the engine in the 180/200 range

On the newer engines with better pump sealings and no big toptanks on the radiators it΄s less of an issue.
I don΄t even think that 13lbs cap will be a real world issue...and i have run several 7lbs with no problems.
