'51 Tudor Idler Install Issue
I must be interpreting or doing something wrong. Setting up all new idler arm components, prior to hanging all new steering gear. The Green Book calls for 19/32" or .594 space between base of frame bracket and "lip" on idler arm. Threading the idler arm into bushing bottoms out before getting to that dimension. I can't proceed till I figure this one out. Advice and suggestions most welcome! Thanks.

Just a guess but the suppliers show the same part for 49-51. Try using the 49-early 50 adjustment instead of the 51. I installed my idler arm from Shoebox Central in my 49 using the 49 method without any issues.

If you go by basic principles, you could hold it in the orientation that it is in when working, and check that it sweeps back and forth in the required arc without bottoming. If it bottoms, you will have to go one turn out.

You nailed it Mart. Just finished talking with Chris at Shoebox Central, he said the factory made it out to be more complicated than needed. Turn idler arm in to bushing till it bottoms, then go one turn out.
