Default Wind Wing Glass - Closed Car

I just bought a set of wind wings for my Victoria. The brackets come with a roll of glass setting rubber. My thought is that the setting material and glass need to be glued into each bracket.
What have you used to set the wing wing glasses?

Bob, these are not manufactured correctly, and so the only way I have ever been able to successfully make them stay is to mill a slot in the brackets and clamps supplied to accept the wind wing rubber with the protrusions (link below). You will need to modify these too but it does grip well and the clamping force this allows you is all that is needed.

Once the glass is captured between the wind wing brackets, there is no way for it to fall out. I have had mind on my '29 Tudor for 52 years now with out any problems. I wouldn't leave home without them. I did resent them sending Phillips head screws for their installation rather than the correct slotted headed screws. Hopefully 52 years later, that by now they have it corrected.

Hi Joop, Yep, I also have 4 closed Model A Fords. I too was also referring to the closed cars. Attached is our 1929 Model A Ford that also has the same type of wind wings. They make a big improvements on the quality of ride when the windows are rolled down. Our wind wings were made over 50 years ago and they do not have the issues of the newly made wind wings. Our wind wing brackets came with it's glass paper pattern back then and I had to cut my own glass for them.

I did a test fit of the A-18000-C Wind Wings by Vintique on the driver's door of my 190A. Be aware that this set of wind wings requires modifications to fit them to a car. The issues I see so far:
> No installation instructions;
> Tempered glass, so it cannot be trimmed to improve its fit;
> Glass for slant windshield cars has an odd shape, so they have a top and a bottom and a one-way fit. The top & bottom of the glasses are not marked;
> Glass shape is a poor fit in the brackets, so the brackets will need to be modified to get a better position of the glass;
> Glass setting material is old, it stinks (out gassing) and it easily cracks;
> Oval head machine screws that pinch the mounting brackets to clamp the journals of the brackets that hold the glass are too long;
> Thread pitch of the oval head screws that attach the mounting brackets to the doors is too coarse;
> Mounting brackets lack gaskets to protect the paint on the car doors.

I value the function of the wind wings enough that I will not return them. To the contrary, I will post here what I windup doing to make the Vintique Wind Wings fit.

Just an outsiders observation, but unless they are etched with a design, tempered glass is really not that expensive. If one has the brackets a paper or light cardboard template can be made of the glass that would fit the right way. Then a local glass shop should be able to get them for you. I am in the building business and get tempered glass done this way all the time. I would say as a rough estimate the size needed for a wing shouldnt cost more than $50 for the pair.
