1934 Headlights ?
Should be an easy question for you experts: My 34' Coupe has had the lens's / lights replaced with sealed beam headlights. I want to go back to originals.
What did the originals look like ? Diameter ? Maker ? (Was it a Ford "Two-Lite" lens). ? Concave or flat. And was the trim ring a different diameter than what "holds in" the present sealed beam light ? Thanks. |

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Hard to tell if you have the original shell Ford two-lite, there is about 1" difference in depth between 33 & 34 buckets and it appears the ring (yours may be correct). Will most likely need the wiring and sockets (not reproduced for the 1000 bulb 32/32 CP) Reflectors (Mac's are Vintique and the Vintique has a lip too tall on the outer perimeter). rubber or cork seal (reflector to lens). Lens (Ford script, slightly convex should be able to get from Southside obsolete NOS) clips to hold the lens to the inside of the trim ring, and I believe there is a C-shaped clip in the top of the shell that holds the trim ring to the upper part of the shell (Southside may have the glass clips and C-clip) Don't forget the 1000 light bulbs. If you have a standard model the wiring and additional bulb socket & reflector are different.

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Here is a reflector that has been 'hacked' to install sealed beams. The only point here is to show what the outer diameter looks like...
To address one of your questions... OD of bucket or trim ring is about 9-1/2, and the OD of the glass lens (Original Ford script TwoLite) is about 9.0. Convex amount on the glass is about 1.0 (eyeball guestimate). Last edited by bobH; 02-16-2016 at 02:09 PM. |

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Original components seem to be readily available including in NOS form (reflectors, lenses, rims and even wiring with the sockets) likely because those items were used unchanged for both the '33 and '34 model years (the one exception being the housings, as mentioned above). Try a wanted ad here on this site and on the V8 Club website and watch for them on ebay.

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
It appears my headlight rings are in good original working order and all that I require is a pair of lens and the six retaining clips and reflectors.

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Is the push tab at the bottom of the ring still spring-loaded?

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Not good - The ring is held tight to the bucket by spring tension....

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
I understand and have got it off successfully and will replace the old springs. Just need the lens and reflectors first. Thanks.

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Also need wiring with socket and light bulb. I believe the aftermarket has a rebuilding kit for the retaining ring bottom retainers but you can get the springs at the local hardware store.

Re: 1934 Headlights ?
Unfortunately the spring clips they make repo ones are too strong and have a tendency to chip the lens so be careful . I have NOS lens and restored and repolished buckets 33 and 34 if needed.
