32 - 34 gas caps
Does anyone make a gas cap that will actually seal and keep gasoline from leaking out of an original 32 - 34 tank? I'd rather have an unvented cap, but will try anything that will actually hold gas in the tank.
I've tried many tricks to get them to seal including cutting a second gasket and other ideas. So far I still get gas sloshing out onto the paint on both my '32 and '33. I appreciate any ideas/help. |

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
The question... No I don't think one exists. On the ideas... I have fixed the issue for the most part by refusing to fill the tank over 3/4, and even then I'm careful and regretful. '35-'36's do it when just the slightest bit full and taking a curve to the right.

Chris, try smearing a bit of grease on the gasket you made. It works for me, (well, kinda). Good luck, Doug.

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
In my opinion in regards to repro caps the Vintique cap seals the best in original tanks. Stant makes a cap that seals well but looks nothing like a original and is vented

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
I use original non-vented caps with NOS leather gaskets for pre-36s and have not had spillage.

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
35ford, yes I think it was!i bought two so I had a spare in the 33: if you want a picket. Me know,I,m sure it’s not the 100% correct one as with the v8 logo it doesn’t do up straight!but I got a plane one as well, they both work well and don’t leak.

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
Pre-'36 they are vented at the fuel pickup on top of the tank so a vented cap is both redundant and an exit route for spillage.

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
I use a vented cap on the 34 but i have a spot of weld on the inside over the vent hole, a gasket cut from a bit of plumbers roofing rubber (Bout nol ) works great ,have not worried about it for 20 years ,

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
Can you buy a new cap today from Vintique? I can't seem to find them on the web.
Here is a thread from 2012 that talked about the same thing 6 years ago. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...2571&showall=1 Are they out of business? They still have the website that is under construction - same as 2012. Can you get their stuff from one of the other vendors like C&G, Joe's, Drakes, etc...? |

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
The thread I referenced from 2012 said Vintique was started by the same family as CW Moss. I called CW Moss and they said they handled Vintique components but that they are out of stock on the Vintique gas caps and don't know when they would have them. Looks like a dead end for a Vintique gas cap unless you can find NOS.

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
Fairly sure our cap on the 32 is vintique ,not original as it has the V8 stamped in it. Tried all sorts to stop the leak from under the cap.
Went to this cap , never a drop leaks out now. |

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
CW Moss said they had a V8 cap from Drake. I saw Joe's Auto was also listing a Drake V8 Cap. Do you think your cap may have come from Bob Drake?

Re: 32 - 34 gas caps
As far as I know there has not been a non vented gas cap made for Ford V8's because of the mechanism. They say there was one made for the 1935 Ford V8 models with the inscription on it.
