Default Decades of old wax is no fun to remove

Like the title says. My fenders and splash apron still sport the original paint but there is layer upon layer of waxy build-up on it, leaving a milky haze. I've cut through in spots using a rag, PB Blaster, and elbow grease to find the paint but there has to be a better way. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try autobody wax and silicone remover. A good auto paint supply house stocks this. Try a small area first. It shouldn't effect the paint but it could. With one soaked rag, rub into surface to disolve the wax followed by another dry rag to wipe off residue.

You might want to try PPG DX-330. It is available at PPG automotive paint stores. A little pricy but it remove old wax, tar, etc.

I used body clay on my car, works really well and is easy, and fun to do, you really see and feels a big inference quickly.

Mothers has a kit that you can buy from Walmart or other big box store, makes the body feel like glass.

Because I avoid chemicals I also used body clay and it worked very well.

Clay bar here also. Works great. Less chance of harmful chemicals messing things up.

The automotive grease and wax removers work well. Most of us painters use that at least once and usually several times prior to painting. It takes it all off. Never had it affect any paint product. DuPonts famous one is prep sol but all paint suppliers have it. I use one my paint vendor sells...cheaper than dupont or other name brands. For the tree huggers you can also get water based one.

Slackcat ...............
Check in with your local paint shop, to see what they use. They would have to use something. They would tell you what is best.

Yes, wax and grease remover. And don't be shy with it. Work an area about 2' sq. let it soak in and then wipe it off. Dont' be surprised if the colour changes. I once cleaned up a 64 Lincoln conv. that was Dove grey when I started and Powder blue when I finished. Mind you I used 5 gallons of wax and grease remover and a bundle of white rags. It took me 2 days to get the old wax and encrusted dirt off.

Wax and grease remover is basically naphtha. You can get naphtha pretty cheaply at the hardware store or Big Orange Box. It's a lot less irritating to your hands than things like lacquer thinner. For a final wipe-down before painting, I use a higher-grade stuff like Prep-Sol.
At Pep Boys, they sell "Klean-Strip Prep-All", which is a spray. It's a lot more convenient than a bottle or can.
