Default 1 More 8BA Caburator Query

I have a 52 Fordomagic with an Autolite B6A-9510-R carb. Some
parts are missing, choke linkage. The fuel line was leaking in two places and I replaced it, and discovered that there is no filter in the pump, and the bowel is full of loose crud. I cannot get the fuel up to the mesh pump. Ordered a 6V electric pump and 4 clear filters. When I looked up this carb, I get zero information. Is it safe to put an electric pump on it?

Yes electric pump is fine but, first find out why your fuel pump isn't
'pumping". If you can't get fuel to the pump it sounds like your fuel pump needs to be rebuilt. Try that before installing electric pump. Also, is there crud in your gas tank preventing proper gas flow?
Plus, it would be a good idea to replace the missing carb parts.

I can't find any info about this carb. The name and numbers come from a tag screwed to the float bowl housing. Autolite doesn't list it. Also, any site I have found with a carb says "not for Fordomatics". Is that because of the kickdown linkage??

That carb looks nothing like mine. I m not at home at the moment so I can't take a photo. Mine looks like a Stromberg, but has the Autolite tag.

Ok. Here's more info.

Posting a photo will be a big help. Did your car orginally come and run fine with the carb you are asking about?

Yes, this Autolite came with the car, and ran fine till I changed the fuel line. It may still be ok but I can't get fuel to the carb.

Since you said that : "ran fine till I changed the fuel line. It may still be ok but I can't get fuel to the carb.", I would go back and double check all your fuel line connections to make sure they are tight. Then, if you have a compressor disconnect the line at the fuel pump and literally blow air back thru the line into the tank as you may have crud from the tank clogging the exit to the fuel line. Then crank the engine to see if fuel exits the fuel pump. If your fuel pump has a glass bowl you should see gas filling the glass bowl with no leaks.

Does the engine start if you prime the carb with a little gas? Is your gas cap vented?

And... Mike's Carburetor cannot find this P/N.
Thank you for all your suggestions.

The engine starts if I Prime it, then runs out of prime. And, of course, the battery is suffering from all the starting attempts.

You should have a standard 3 bolt base carburetor with the exception of an added dashpot on the side. I have run, and also have had friends run, standard transmission carburetors lacking the dashpot on Fordomatic cars with no issues. You should be able to get parts off any normal 8BA era V8 Ford passenger car carburetor to complete your unit.

I have a three bolt, no dashpot, no choke control; the cable is hanging in the air, a Tiny K&N filter. That now I got it. And it ran fine...till now.

B6A-9510-R is a Ford part number. I looked it up in the parts book and it's for
a 1956 272.

Yes, it is safe to put an electric fuel pump on it. After you do, see how it behaves....if it tries to flood while running you may need to install a pressure regulator.
