Default 337 Flathead distributor build up.....

This one made my distributor of the week for this week.
After some discussion with a fellow Hamber there doesnt seem to be a lot of distributors available for the 337 big flatheads.
So lets make one up.
We need a good core distributor for parts and make up of the drive shaft ( a un-usual duck for sure). A trip to the machine shop and make up a new butt on a Mallory rev pol of correct rotation etc. A little machining and a new sleeve pressed on the housing and "walla" you have a new 337 distributor housing using the Mallory insides and the "cool look" Mallory rev pol two piece cap.
A little assembly time and on the machine we go, this one had a little too much advance and needed the internal stops shimmed up to make it picture perfect. It will recieve a pertronixs electronic module etc and its done .

Nice look dont ya think???

"Don't have one?" "Well, lets just make one!" Love that sentiment/attitude. As always, beautiful piece of work. Congrats.

Buba

Did you know Kong Jackson? He was always working on flat head distributers. I had lunch with him and Ed Iskandari. I did not know who he was until a few years latter when I was reading some book about the history of hot rodding. He was trying to talk Iskandari out of a master cam for a flathead during the lunch.

Do not get me started on the stupidity of ethanol. I think one of the monitors is from Iowa and he will delete the thread.

Dont know Kong but have worked on some of his early Ford products. Ed Isky has been in our shop a few times on Gasoline Alley during the years when the PRI show was in Indy.

Amazing what the two of them did during the "day"..
