39 flat head rear main return tube
My 39 59ab was leaking oil out of the rear of the engine profusely. Pulled the engine then the pan and found that the return tube coming out of the rear main cap was missing. Newly over hauled engine. Would this cause the leak? How long would this tube be?

Good suggestion.
Not to be particular but there is no such thing as a 39 59ab. It's okay, and not what you meant, but to be historical correct. Best of luck! |

Re: 39 flat head rear main return tube
I'd probably guess that the leak is coming from the rear of the pan due to a leather or neoprene seal that got twisted or slipped out of it's pan groove. I had to first glue the seal to the pan groove to keep it in place during assembly. Jack E/NJ

Re: 39 flat head rear main return tube
Thanks guys. It turned out to be the missing tube off the rear main cap that was missing. The engine was rebuilt and that was left off. No leaks now.
