Dave sew your panels 300 .then 400 then,210 from the front this is on a cloth 1400 x 1500 across sew on each line a bit of looped Kalico 1/1/4 tack this to the wood bows make sure you have the wires at each side ,Tack it with a light stretch front to back . Then do most of the stretching sideways .Taken from a L Baron B kit Ted

You guys from down under must have your own language. What in the heck is 300 then 400 then,210 from the front this is on a cloth 1400 x 1500. Wow, anyway, Dave, without the originals to go by, it is going to be hard. The early 35's had a tacking bow accross the rear window and the later ones did not. I think I would just buy a kit. Don't cost that much

Its not Rocket science ,Get the correct stretchable cloth from say Macs .Cut it 1400mm x 1500 . sow from the front 300 with the excess 60mm to tack through ,then sew the next one 400mm across then 210,this will match up with the existing wood ribs and you will have 3 panels . When you do this fold a piece of 4" calico (not sure if you call it that ) with a hot iron into 2' sew this in as you go with the seam on the back .. At the rear over the bolted metal bow , you slide the first seam (Folded pocket in the calico ) . .Starting at the rear tack strip tack through the head lining ,. stretch it lightly towards the front ,.Then tack to each wood bow through the folded pocket .Starting at the rear tack strip You will end up with 3 panels .These are all the same they don't taper at the ends eg 210 at the right and 210 at the left ,

Dave.... you can go to; Fryer's Interiors ,Stockinteriors.com , autoupholsterykits.com for some instructions or just google , Just some thoughts , I am in the process of taking out my old and installing my new headliner in my 34 sedan, following the LaBaron Bonny instructions , not sure on some of the terms ,but I'll proceed slowly ...

You will have to excuse us here in the US. We have metric rulers and all but we still use the inch system out of habit. Habits are hard to break and I'm as guilty as any other.

Thanks Kerby for your reassuring reply ,We were also with the imperial system (inches feet ) up till about 1975 here ,till we went to Metric .I still pick bolts that have both threads, its quite frustrating ,feet and inches were quiet ok .I do have both rulers to .Ted

Just to make this a bit clearer ,When I fitted my Le Barron headlining in my coup in 85 I thought at the time I could make this my self,as its just a rectangular piece of cloth 56"X 50 (or enough to overlap the roof cavity ,)with three panels or seams sown across it , 12" then 15 .3/4 then 8 1/4 You can check this measurement as it should be the same as your wood bows and have a little overlap ,on each seam you add some scrap material ,like a 4 to 5" width of Denim folded over on its self and ironed flat, sow this in with the sowing ,as you sew across ,This could be tricky as you need to sew only once and sew straight ,I am sure Daves Missus can handle the Job ,As it needs to slide over the first rear bow the loop needs to be wide enough ,The others don't matter so much as you tack through the excess into the wood ,Start by sliding the loop over the rear bow then temporary tack to the front of the next wood rib , then tack through the head ling cloth into the rear tack strip .all the while holding it firm .Move towards the front onto # 2 bow tacking on each wood bow ,The final tacking is done under the front header panel .As you move forward slide the loop over each wire provided at the edge of the bows it takes place of the tacks so you dont tack fully to the edge ,You may need to cut here a little at the denim were it meets the roof edge to get a smooth Finnish .You then tack along the sides pulling it firm to get the seam lines straight ,There is a special soft piping that covers the tacked edge ,

For me, the top headliner was the easy part. The hard part was making the cardboard side panels that are cover with headliner material. If they are not cut just right, you end up with either gaps around the windows or to much material. . Looks like Ted got his right on the money.

I worked on Chrysler products in the 70s on interiors , it was a good learning time .If you plan on covering the panels your self I would recommend you shape them first, then spray both surfaces with a contact glue leave it for 5to 10 min then use two people to fit them ,

Here is a picture of some headliner wires. They have an eye
on one end (the eye is rusted off the longer one) and are attached with a screw. I think the wires pictures were off a 5-window; but I may have taken them off a 3-window, do not remember for sure.

Dave They are about 6" to 8"long and have a Eyelet in one end to take a screw on the other there's a bend at the end so the point does not cut through the liner ,They have a banana shape curve in them that follows the inside of the roof ,at the end of each bow down on the side were the piping goes there's a 1/8 screw hole , 1/8 size wire ,( I now see Rich post ) Ted
