32 Upholstery nearly done

I tackled the seats in my 32 Pickup yesterday, using the kit from LeBaron Bonney.
These first four pics show putting on the burlap, hard pad, and white fluffy pad. When I first put the seat cover on the pile, I didn't think it would ever fit, but it did. See Reply for more pics.

These pics show the finished product for the bottoms. The seat backrest just has the cover pulled tight over the padding, but it's not fully secured yet, so it has a few wrinkles.

I think on the 32 open cab that the back top edge of the cover is supposed to wrap around the wood trim piece that goes around the back of the cab. However, this kit is, I think, made for a closed cab where the seat back is wrapped with the cover and attached differently. I think I can make it work as-is, so I'm not stressing over it.

Overall, I'm just amazed at how well these turned out. Took me about 90 minutes to do the two seat bottoms (not counting the time I drove to Ace Hardware, then Harbor Freight to find more 1/2" staples for my air stapler!).

In the end, it worked out for the best as the back of the upper edge of the back rest cushion did not attach to the belt rail on a '32 open cab (originally). The belt rail was covered separately.

Looks excellent! We had a local fellow who had clearance problems with the steering wheel, and had to compress his seat springs with the fabric [tighten]. How's it feel to sit in the trk? Newc

NealinCA: Hey, Neal. Good to hear from you. Had the engine running a couple times yesterday for 10 minutes each time. Runs pretty good, but misses and bucks a little. Carb is as lean as it will go, so I hope it isn't running rich. I'll take some more finished cab pics once I get all the dangling dash wiring up out of the way.
DavidG: Thanks for the info. I didn't know the belt rail was a separate cover (my old one wasn't). I'm going to PM you about how to attach the seat back at the top side.
Newc: Sitting in the truck feels good. I was pretty skinny when I last drove the truck--been about 35 years--so I was wondering about the steering wheel clearance, too. But it seems fine. You're in a pretty upright sitting position, not like my 34 Fordor where I always felt I was sitting in a hole and reclining. I much prefer the 32 pickup. I remember my friend David Woodworth had a 28 PU, and how cramped it was for legroom and front-to-back clearing the steering wheel. It always felt so much better when I jumped into the 32.

I have often said that any project worth doing is worth several trips to the hardware store! LOL!

Does anyone know how the seat back attaches at the top? I have three wood slats behind the back rest with pointed clips on the lower part to catch the bottom edge of the spring rail. But what holds the top of the seat back rest in place? Might be something specific to an Open Cab. Thanks

As indicated in our e-mail exchange, I stand corrected as the seat back upholstery does indeed attach to the back belt rail.
