I am not sure I think Evans probably let Smith Jones cast his name on one side. I have never seen a pair like this before.

Re: Smith Jones/ Evans V8 60 heads
Smith & Jones was a full service speed shop out of Long Beach,Ca. in the '40's and maybe later. They offered an assortment of speed equipment, engine building and full machine shop service.
I have owned V8-60 heads both with Evans and Smith Jones on them. They were identical except for the names. Apparently Evans let them use his design. |

Re: Smith Jones/ Evans V8 60 heads
I could be way off base, but I don't think the Evans on these heads is "Earl Evans" of later Evans Speed Equipment fame. It may be Pop Evans. Not sure, I remember reading that somewhere.
Sure are cool regardless... |

Re: Smith Jones/ Evans V8 60 heads
Yes,it was Earl Evans who manufactured these heads for Clay Smith who was one of the partners in Smith & Jones. Earl was in the foundry and pattern maker trade like his father and even had his own foundry when he got into the speed and performance business in the 30's.

Gary in La. already clarified who built those V8-60 heads but I'd like to add that it was in fact Earl that was sometimes called Pop. The lakes racers did that since he was older and wiser then most of them. |
