Default Assembly Plants and Body Numbers

Found these letters (if you can call them that) and numbers on the side rail of a February 1931 Fordor 165C

Can someone let me know where this car was made or what it stands for.

The last picture is the way it in the car but put up all angles to help

Thanks

Joop,
I have not seen anything like this before. The numbers and the other characters may have been done at two different times. Looks like a center punch and a small cold chisel were used for the odd characters.
Regards,
Dave

My two cars are original and I am the second owner .Interesting though is the 1930 Serial # is CAE 3613 .They likely would have been assembled in Regina or Calgary .There is no numbers on the cars other than the motor. Joops car could have been a Canadian car with the numbers added by hand and a American motor dded .

Don't know if this will help, but appears to me that the miss-stamped letters are "VH"

Most of the Murray and Briggs bodies had a small tag either attached to front body sill or firewall. The Ford built bodies have the numbers stamped into the front Steel body sill (cross member). These numbers are production numbers for each assembly plant.

Could it be just an owner putting on "his" number just for ID purposes??

This must be the month for body number questions. Here is a link from the Model t site that should answer your question. Hope this helps.
