Default Temp sender outlet

1941 Ford Pickup flathead V8
I have dual temp senders right now. One on each head with a jumper wire in between. Can I just use the driver's side single wire sender to feed the gauge and be able to hook my heater back up with a valve on the passenger side in place of the sender?
My heads only have one port on each head in front of the thermostat outlet.
I want my heater to function since it's there. My radiator has an elbowed port at the very bottom tank.
Would I need to use the single wire sender or the double connector sender in the driver's side?
Are there any cons to using only one sender? If so, why did they make heads with only one port on each side.

Yes you can, but keep in mind the flathead consist of two seperate cooling systems and you will be monitoring only one of them. The single wire is the variable sender, the two wire is just a preset switch.

Is there any way to keep the passenger side sender and also be able to hook up my heater? Like a "T" that would accept the sender in the top?
Any thoughts?

Yes, but the sender becomes less accurate if the tip is not in the stream of water in the head. Would probably read ok when water was flowing through the heater core but not as well when the water was not flowing to the heater.

Because when your engine was built, hot water heaters were just starting to become available from Ford. Drilling, tapping, and plugging the extra hole was not cost effective.

Water heaters were, in those days, a Dealer installed accessory. You can drill & tap the hole yourself as easily as the Dealers did back in the day.

I was also wondering if the head had the casting (undrilled/tapped) for the second fitting on each head? If it was me, that would be the easiest way to go.

No, the casting has no provision for a port.

Well that won't work then.

I don't understand why it only has one since it has a heater and controls which look very factory to me. It has a heater core which you can tell has been used. So I'm guessing it came with only one sender and someone added a second but eliminated the heater hose connection.

Did the 41's have the heater hose attached to the lower radiator hose? Even if they didn't, is that a viable option? Not familiar with 41's.

The return line should be, but you also need the feed line.

My '41 has an elbow with a 5/8" fitting in the bottom tank where most radiators have a drain valve. Looks factory, but who knows.

No 2nd boss to drill/tap... As yours is a commercial, that does sound very possible. At that time, with passenger cars, I believe there were two bosses, but again, commercials got leftovers.

I have a couple of F8 trucks (337 V8) temp sender on drivers side and the heater
is on the right head just like what you want to do. I have not seen two senders like
its little brother has, on these big block Lincoln 337's on trucks. And as said its no
big deal to drill & tap cast iron...

That is correct. In your 1941, both heads had a single threaded port. Only one temperature sending unit was installed - that being in the left head.
The right head port had a brass hex head plug put in it. If a heater was installed, that plug was replaced with the water control valve.

Thank you for clarifying that. I was beginning to think that someone had replaced the heads with the wrong ones. I could never find a photo of heads like mine. I guess if the factory was okay with only having one sender, it's good enough for me. I can now hook my heater back up.
