Default What brake hose for F100 wheel cylinder on 40?

Anyone have a part # for front brake hoses on a stock 40 now with 56 F100 brakes? Getting ready to install and 40 hoses won't work at wheel cylinder. Hopefully there is a simple solution. Thanks in advance---RPM

If you can find an old auto parts store, or some one with a catalog, there is a listing by size. This would show the hose ends by type and size, then in lengths. figure out what fittings you need you need. Then measure the distance from brake line to w/cyl-

Here's an outfit that makes up whatever you want.

Another possibility is to re-plumb the hard lines on your '40 to 3/16" line. Then, you'd be able to use the F100 hoses. I put F1 brakes on a '32 and used 1/4" steel lines. I managed to get a pair of hoses from Richard Lacy at the Early V8 Garage.

When I installed F100 brakes on my '36 I found the easiest way was to

drill and tap the wheel cylinder to fit the stock 1/4 inch hose. I think it

was a standard 7/16 - 24 thread.

7/16-24 is not a STANDARD thread size. 7/16-14 UNC IS a standard thread size. 7/16-20 UNF IS a standard thread size that is used where a HOSE is threaded into a wheel cylinder. 7/16-28 UNEF IS a standard thread size. 7/16-24 UN IS NOT a standard thread size, but it is used for the double flare fittings on 1/4" steel tube used for the hard lines on our early Fords. (It is a bastard size, but taps are available from sources such as McMaster.com.) So, if you're going to re-machine wheel cylinders, you'll need to open up the 3/8" threads to 7/16-20 UNF. You should also redo the spot face for the flat copper gasket in the same machining set up so the gasket will seal properly.

I had a pair of hoses made up with the appropriate fittings at the local industrial hose place for about $25 each.

I once inquired at an industrial hose place, and if you mention the word "brakes," they flat out refuse to do it. There's a ton of liability involved and proper insurance for them would be horrendously expensive!

Thank you PeteVS for getting me straight about the thread on the

wheel cylinder redo for the brake hose. I had done that many years

ago and forgot the proper tap size. I hate to give out wrong information.

I used pt# sp4312 from my local CarQuest Auto parts. I think it had some 60's Mustang/Fairlane applications. Don't forget you've got to grind a notch in the 40 spindle to clear the hose & w/cyl with the 56 brakes. It was a good "old school" upgrade, stops better.
