42-48 Ford Wheels
Can you run 42-48 Ford wheels tubeless? Going to use some 500X16 Excelsior's.

I wonder? Why do you want to use '40 Ford 16" wheels? Ford offered the 5 on 5.5 16" wheels on the F-1/F100 through 1966. This wheel has the inside knobs for the hub cap and looks exactly like the '40 wheel, and are made for tubeless tires.

Re: 40 Ford wheels
Because....40 is 4" wide and if your lucky and find 40 v8-60 they are 3-1/2" wide.
All others 4-1/2" wide and some were 5" wide Has to do with skinny tires and the right look As far as tubeless, ive had some no issues other leaked at the rivits. The tire shop will say its a no no because of no safety bead |

Re: 40 Ford wheels
Yeah I would definitely put some silicon on the rivets to prevent leaks.

I wonder if powder coating the wheels would seal the rivets?

Re: 42-48 Ford Wheels
.
These pictures show 5.50 X 16" Excelsiors on 4", '40 wheels. No tubes, but cautiously buttered the rivets with JB Weld...never a leak! The big ones are 7.50 X 16" Excelsiors on 4-1/2", '48 wheels...no tubes. All on the same '36 3-W. DD |

Re: 42-48 Ford Wheels
I bought some 18 X5.5 40 style steelies from Steadfast MFG for the rear so I know they won't leak and they are still searching for some matching 16 inch fronts. They will look good black with rings and caps on my deuce Henry highboy.

Re: 42-48 Ford Wheels
I have Coker classics on 16 X 5 41 Lincoln wheels in the rear and
16 X 4 40 Ford wheels on the front of my 32 Tudor. No Tubes, I used Metal valve stems So far no leaks Just about 75 miles on them now. I guess we'll see how they do this season. Putting together another set for my 5 window same exact wheel/tire combo.

dono50 .....I probably can't take any credit for that sweet little ride. It belongs to my friend and fellow 'Barner "Heard", who lives and plays just southwest of Daytona Beach. I know he will appreciate your kind words. The top side of his '36 below! DD
