First It is VIN not VIN number. VIN is Vehicle Identification Number. VIN number would be vehicle identification number number. Second Modern VINs started in the 1950's and 1960s. The Model A only has an Engine number which is replicated on the frame. The VIN trace sites will not accept a Model A Engine number as a VIN. If you are looking for a trace on a modern car just do a Google search on VIN search and you will find many web site. Most if not all require a payment to get any useful information. Bob |

Recently there was a new guy building a rat rod that asked the same question. He didn't last to long, but if your a stock kinda guy we would live to have you. Do an intro, tell us who you are and what kind of toys you have. Maybe even show us a pic. We like to be bothered with questions |

Re: Vin number trace.
Mike, like others have stated there is no stupid question. There is however a ton of information on Ford Barn. Whether you are doing a full restoration or just enjoy driving, maintaining your "A" you will get plenty of help here. Hang in there.

There was nothing wrong with your question. Stick around. There is a lot of valuable information here but you need to sort through the garbage sometimes. One poster chose to bring in unrelated baggage from another unrelated post (their problem) and another chose to make picky grammatical corrections(again their problem). I don't mind saying that when I am inquiring about the vehicle identification number for a Model A (that is actually the serial number of the engine) I will say VIN. And in closing, if anyone knows of a good VIN number trace site I also would like to know about it. Charlie Stephens Last edited by Charlie Stephens; 11-02-2013 at 11:00 AM. |

Re: Vin number trace.
Best advice I could give is to contact the person you bought the car from and start tracing it back from there. If it was bought at a swap meet or such it could get hard. There may be family members of past owners that might remember the car that could help. You could contact the factory and see if they have any info on where the car was shipped when sold new.
The serial/VIN number on a Model A is too short but you could try by placing "*'s" to take the place of the missing numbers. |

A double standard is the application of different sets of principles for similar situations, or by two different people in the same situation.[1] A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts (often, for example, a word, phrase, social norm, or rule) are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group. A double standard can therefore be described as a biased or morally unfair application of the principle that all are equal in their freedoms. Such double standards are seen as unjustified because they violate a basic maxim of modern legal jurisprudence: that all parties should stand equal before the law. Double standards also violate the principle of justice known as impartiality, which is based on the assumption that the same standards should be applied to all people, without regard to subjective bias or favoritism based on social class, rank, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or other distinctions. A double standard violates this principle by holding different people accountable according to different standards. |

Re: Vin number trace.
ModelAMike1930,
Try this, go to Steve Pluckers website http://www.plucks329s.org/ There you will find "Additional Studies" and within this you will find "Letters, Numbers, and Codes" "This study addresses questions regarding the various production numbers found on the Model A/AA". Here is a link to the PDF file: http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/studie...ND%20CODES.pdf Model A engine numbers are the origin of the number stamped onto the frame. Darryl in Fairbanks Thanks to Steve Plucker for the Research and Information. |

Re: Vin number trace.
I think it would helpful to keep in mind that sometimes what we type does not have the same inflections and subtleties that in-person conversation has, and that can result in a misinterpretation of what one is intending to convey. In this regard I would suggest that people not be so quick to take offense, and maybe try to regard the comment in a more generous and positive light. Internet communications require a thicker skin and a more forgiving attitude.
Also, staying on topic, not being defensive, and adhering to the rules of the site go a long way to keeping the forum friendly and helpful (he says, as he strays off the topic of the OP ). Remember, we're here and in this hobby for fun.
