Need immediate help with front breaks OPERATING ACUPIN.
Help Please:I would like to try a short cut to replace the operating PIN. I have everything broken down by the model A Mechanics Hand Book but not he removal of the bottled immediate om spring. The operating WEDGE stud was removed. Can I remove only the bottom spring and replace the operating PIN, or do I have to execute the complete disassembly the upper parts to replace it? Your immediate help would be greatly appreciated? I live in Italy and have no help with Model A repairs.

I have never done it that way and the pin may not clear the lip of the backing plate, but why not try it. You have nothing to lose.

If i remove the spring I think the operating wedge will fall out and the Pin can be removed. then I can replace the pin new and reinsert the wedge then the operating wedge stud with replacement spacer and then the bottom spring, what do you think? The reason for this is that I do not have an alignment tool to align the break shoes..

Why do you want to replace the pin. If you are not getting enough angle on the operating lever you can just add a pill in the wedge.

Your operating lever should lean forward about 15* with you foot off the brake. Then with the brakes on the lever will be closer to straight up giving you maximum leverage. If you have the wedge out just put the pill in the cup on top of the wedge. If you don't have a pill you can make one out of beer can metal.

Now that sounds good I have purchased Pills from MAC. I will try that tomorrow morning it is 2330 here in Vinece Italy, Thank you hope that a pill will rise the bar enough to get 15 degrees on the Break actuator Arm, I am now at zero degrees. Hope 1 pin will move the bar to 15?

I believe the pins are 7 1/4 inches long. I would not worry about centering you brakes. If your roller pins and roller tracks are in good shape you will be fine.
Where do you drive in Venice. I thought it was all water. |

If I remember correctly two pills is max. Many simply weld the end of the pin and grind to achieve 7 and a quarter length. No need for the pill.
