Treatment for new white sidewalls
I have just fitted a new set of Firestone 4ply white sidewalls and new tubes to the 41.
I have cleaned the sidewall but they scuff fairly easily (who knew?). Before I road test her, is there any treatment to put on them to 'seal' or treat the whitewall to reduce the likelihood of scuff? The previous tyres (Allstate WW) felt like they had been waxed or something. Many thanks |

Re: Treatment for new white sidewalls
Applying any substance to the tread that alters the adhesion property of the tire is inviting disaster.

I am going to try the tire whitewall wax to see how it removes stains etc, any protective poperties it may actually have will be a bonus. |

There is a case I know of where the tires were completely 'shined black'. The owner found out it was a bad thing to do when he lost control of the vehicle at the first turn he made.

Re: Treatment for new white sidewalls
If sun ray exposure is a real problem one could always use tire covers.

Re: Treatment for new white sidewalls
I think it might be possible to put something carefully on the white area of the sidewall without affecting the contact portion of the tyre.
UV harms rubber (at least this is what my tyre guy says) and we always seem to have a high to extreme UV index, so there is not much that can be done in the regard. I'm not being anal, I was just hoping to make them a little less of a magnet to light scuffs and fingerprints. I couldn't believe how many marks I put on them just fitting the caps! |

Re: Treatment for new white sidewalls
Keeping white side wall tires really white takes care and attention. do not scuff the curb. like you said they smudge easily. I found that as they age they do not smudge as easy from just putting on hub caps and such, but curbs are still a killer. there are many cleaners that work well if used properly.

I do not use anything ,zero ,zip, ilch. At my age I'm lucky to just get in & drive. No polish either just dusting off on occasion.

Re: Treatment for new white sidewalls
I recall a thread here where the guy was putting tea on the whitewalls to get that yellowed look. It's kind of like new converse tennis shoes when we were kids. The white rubber part always became sort of yellow after a while. Then they didn't look so new. Seems the white sidewall would reflect the sun's uv rays and outlast the black part wouldn't it? I've never owned a whitewall so I don't know if that part cracks???
