'36 5 window, Wiper ARM installation
I looked through old threads, but did not find any answers.
How does one install the wiper arm on the vacuum wiper motor post? I purchased the Dual wiper arms kit from Drake, looks good. There is a little wire that sticks out of the arm at 90 degrees. It goes in the little hole on the motor wiper arm. Drake says, "Easy to install". After an hour working on one, I tend to disagree. First i inserted the wire through the hole, then I tried to slip the chrome cover over the arm. Haven't scratched my new paint yet, but it is not installed yet either. I can't get the very long spring to compress inside the chrome cover arm. What is the trick? Steve |

Place the cover over the spring, then push it up to compress the spring and put the upper end of the cover over the post. You have to tilt the arm out to be able to get the angle on the chrome cover to catch the post

Re: '36 5 window, Wiper ARM installation
The wiper arm should have a spring loaded cover, with a "saddle" under the cover near the end.
The end of the arm goes into the hole in the shaft, the cover is then lifted (compressing the spring) until the saddle hooks over the groove. Saddles are occasionally missing, and repro ones often have too small an id to seat on the shaft. If the saddle does not seat the notch can be opened by grinding or spreading, making sure the tabs seat correctly in the cover. |

A BIG Thanks!!! Karl. That was the answer. I had the Saddle under the rod with the hole in it, and not on top as you show in your diagram. I did have to grid the small rod from the wiper arm off just a tad, less than the thickness of a dime, to get the cover to sit properly. I also made sure the saddle was in the grove in the wiper motor arm. Hopefully it will stay on at speed and not blow off in the wind.
Oh, do you mind if I send your drawing to Drake. Nothing came with their wiper assembly. Steve in Denver |
