Problem with high oil pressure?

Hi guys, seen a lot of talk with engines with low oil pressure problems, but I have a recent rebuild with high oil pressure.
The engine does have a high volume pump on it with remote oil filter.
cruisin pressure is about 80#, 40 at hot idle. Now has a couple thousand miles on it with no problems. Should I be concerned ?

What grade of oil are you using? Also helps to know what engine you are running. If you are using something like 15-40, try a lighter oil.

My 41 V8 did the same after re-build now it will go up to 80psi. on start-up then drop back to 40 when running and 20psi at idle when hot. I use 30wt. Valvoline Racing oil because it has zinc in it which is needed for these flathead engines with flat tappet lifters. With it running at idle all you can hear is the fan belt squeeking. Al

Theres no reason to be concerned at all from my many decades of experience

No experience with flatheads but an experienced engine builder told me that my FE's high oil pressure at startup was from a high volume oil pump. Likely that's what's going on with you, given your pump choice. Were the engine not recently rebuilt a blocked passage could be possible. I'm guessing that's not the case. I personally wouldn't worry about it since you've had no issues.

That Valvoline Racing oil my have Zinc but do you know if it’s non detergent or not .

Yes it's detergent oil. has been recommended for flathead Ford's. Al

Hi volume and high pressure are 2 separate things. I'm not old enough to know if both were available as one pump. But I've primed enough OHV Fords to know that you can burn up 110 volt Dewalt trying to prime a engine with high pressure pump at 70 degrees and 10W30 oil. I just stick with stock pressure pumps and volume nowadays.

Volume and pressure are related. Higher volume through a fixed orifice will result in higher pressure. Pressure is only the resut of resistance to oil flow. The fixed displacement oil pumps in our engines only provide flow, given its displacement per each turn of the pump. What will vary the pressure is the viscosity rating of the oil, the oil temperature, relief valve pressure settings, a leaking relief valve and/or worn engine components.

Grumpy- My '41 Coupe engine has the same oil pressure as yours. I use Valvoline also.
I installed mechanical oil pressure and water temperature gauges at the bottom of the dash so I know the readings are good. And I'll be damned- I can hear my belt too.
