Thanks for the info regarding the two radio screws, I havn't drilled the faceplate out. The two slots you referred to I assume would be for the steering column drop for left and right mounted columns. The original dash on the roadster is not nearly as strong as it would be for closed cars and I was concerned about that. I will do a dry run today and see how it looks. Thanks for the help!!

I have a '33 Tudor with an April SN that has been completely apart and there never was an antenna connected to the chicken wire in the roof. In the '60's we connected one and it worked fine with an old 6V radio I found that worked. I have now found a glove box radio that I hope to install but can not find any information on it. I can only find info for the ashtray radio. Is there any info on the glove box radio?

After 47 Posts, I was hoping to read a little more detail from you as to your success in this radio installation. Did you find the antenna lead? Were you able to bring your dead batteries back to life? Captain Kangaroo says "to share"....

Wow Frank, thank god that is all sorted out. I have RSI in my typing fingers. So you actually found that antenna wire HUH ???. Some of us other guys have done this all before several times over and we DO KNOW what we are talking about. Good luck with your car cause you will need it. I do post a few answers mainly to electrical problems and some Barners just never reply to the help that I try to give them which is somewhat disappointing. Regards, Kevin.

Doing a lot of thing to my car..I have removed more than half the repaint to expose the original paint underneath! Slowly, dissolving the earl schibe paint job..fadded blue..to reveal deep duncan blue...It is looking Good!

Status on Radio;

Working Great..No engine interference I am directly plugged into the device call RediRad..

Can hear all my 30s songs over the old radio.
But 2 problems

Radio is TOO loud...Maybe I can cover the speaker.
Also the right side knob just barely touches internal on off and volume.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not reach the on off switch inside the radio. I Can turn on and off with a screwdriver so I know the switch is good.
Problem is that the right side of the radio, Is not as flush to the face-plate as the left side. It is not really noticeable.; I thought about extending the knob shaft. But first I will loosen the radio bolt to the firewall and try to push the radio closer to the face-plate and then re-tightenbolt, maybe that is all it needs.
Installation of these radios is primitive at best.

Any suggestionsss

Hi Frank, As they say today, "That's pretty cool". Thanks for posting. Yes sounds like your radio is mounted back a little on one side and needs to come closer to the back of the dash panel. Loosen all the mounting screws and that rear firewall bolt and jiggle it around a bit. Maybe the single hole you drilled in the horizontal firewall panel is slightly too far forward towards the front of the car. Might have to slot it out towards the rear a little. My radio fits good but it was a PITA to get it in and positioned correctly and I had it in and out about four times. Have you got something better than Al Jolson. LOL. Regards, Kevin.

I have the 200 most popular recordings of 32, 33, 34, you are right Jolson gets a bit too raspy after awhile. Good idea about re positioning to get it closer. Drill out the hole forward/making it a slot, then slide it forward. It think also that some of the screws holding the face plate where in the way of the radio? Tried to bend and file down. I saw some marking on the radio after I removed the first install.

Also the service manual says that I am supposed to install; a resistor right at the high tension distributor wire to cut down Radio Frequency noise from the distributor.
They don't state value of resistor or how I attached. The end of the high tension cable fits right into the distributor...I guess I am supposed to splice a resister of unknown value into the high tension wire?

Frank, The resistor is a special type of usually 15,000 ohms. You could fit one into the high tension cable between your coil and the distributer on your 4 cylinder car. You only would fit it if you were getting Radio frequency interference from the ignition coil in the radio. Those resistors have a recessed male screw thread in each end and you cut the cable in the middle and screw the cable ends into each end of the resistor. It wont effect the spark or the performance of the engine. On some engines one resistor is fitted at each spark plug like on the V8s. GOOGLE plug lead resistors and have a look. Regards, Kevin.
