Default Is this a static supressor

I saved this off a 1950 Mercury engine I had years ago. I want to sell it but am not exactly sure what it is. I think it's some type of radio static supressor. It screws into the ends of the cut ends of the cut coil wire.
What say you all?

Yes, it's a static suppressor (resistor). Must be used with copper conductor wires.

Here's any interesting fact about this. I have an very original '51 Ford that I have had for almost 30 years. It had one of these on it, when I got it, but it came from the factory with no radio and never had one installed until I added one. About 10 years ago, the engine started to run a little "sour". The first thing I did was remove this thing and my problems went away.
