Default please help...flathead identity

Ok...i purchased a flathead v8 from a old friend..oldtimer...he got this motor 15 years ago...fresh rebuild ..running when he recieved....stored for the 15 years.now mine...so info from him says it came out of a 51 truck...which means nothing since it was mostlikely swaped at some point...MAYBE....bill of sale to my old timewr friend says motor H2091:2....which is rear casting num i believe...not motor number...motor number on that nice flat part of block on drivers side of motor...NOT SO FLAT anymore is ground off....yes i know touchy subject....it is what it is now..oviously machine shop done by quality though is now stamped 5534...also my front distributor cover is alluminum....could have been swapped...who knows...haeds say 8ba..could have been swapped also...an on an on...i have motor accesable now..can anyone tell me how to identify year? Model? An h.p....old man says its 100hp ...which means r series i believe...please help...with real info .

Pictures are sometimes worth a thousand words. But from the only identifying feature that you mention (8BA) says that it could be a '49--'51 car engine.

Except for the paint, looks like my 50' 8BA. 239ci., 100hp. I do not know of any ID#s to be found inside. Sure looks nice though.

Yes...the oldtimer told me that exactly...paint was supposed to red i think...im making a running motor stand as we speak.lol.cant wait to hear her rumble...you can still see the crossssweirls in cyclinders...no ridge...definitely complete rebuild...valves..cam bearingd whole nine yards....im going to build mu own intake manifold once i hear it run as is...extremely excited...thanks again for help...

You may or may not have a date code stamped on the rear passenger side intake manifold mounting

Everdently you had a head off to see the crosshatch on the cyl. Did you measure the stroke? If it 3-3/4 it's a Ford. If it's 4in. it's a Merc. Those no. stamped on the front don't mean anything to us, only the guy who stamped them. If you deciver those no. on the top it will only tell you when the engine was made at the factory. Walt
