Marvel carb update
I took the carb completely apart. Jets were clean and all passages open. I re-assembled and set the float according to the book. I put it back on the car and tested it. It idled fine, accelerated fine and when I got up to speed it stuttered like Mel Tillis. I need to put on some long touring miles so I guess my carb project will have to be on hold for awhile. Thanks for your help.

Re: Marvel carb update
Hi Ron,
We hear often: "Causes of problems are "always" found in the "last" place that one looks ........ because after we locate the "cause" of the problem we quit looking." 1. Carburetor float OK; and, 2. Carburetor jets clean and open: and, 3. Carburetor gaskets seals OK; and, 4. How about slightly blocked orifices within the carburetor body? or 5. Just maybe ............ try looking at website diagrams below to see fuel and air flow at "idle"; and, 6. Fuel and air flow "routes & locations" where needed at "Higher Speeds. http://modelabasics.com/carb%20basics%202.htm Might or might not help ...... just a thought. Further down on website are Mr. Endy's very helpful articles. Last edited by H. L. Chauvin; 09-27-2015 at 03:00 PM. Reason: Added note of articles below. |

Re: Marvel carb update
Might need to raise the float a wee bit.

Also, the carb halves tend to warp and can be carefully filed flat to prevent air and gas seepage possibly affecting your spring loaded system. (High spots at the screw holes. ) |
