Default transmission shifter

put a 351 with fmx in a 1953 mercury I'm doing a resto mod on. When I hooked up the tree(column) shifter it shifts backwards. All the way down is park and all the way up is low. Any suggestions on a simple way to reverse this.

Turn the lever on the transmission 180 if possible, in other words if
it's pointing up make it point down.

A bell crank between the column and the transmission will reverse your direction. Or make something the bolt to the existing lever on the transmission to change the point of the linkage to 180 opposite of what it is.

A picture of the arm on the transmission will help explain your issue a little better.

A cable between the column and the transmission is also a option. Would involve making mounting brackets

Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like you could take the lever out
and rotate it.

On the FMX or for most of the auto's when you had a floor shift the selector shaft was 180 from the column shaft. If you know what the transmission had ( column or floor shift) get a shaft from the other. Mustangs had floor shifts with the MX trans and 351's, most Galaxie and torino's had column.

Can you bolt/weld/glue a piece on the stock piece to have it point the other way?
