Default How To Remove lock cylinder?

There is a small button on the side of the (door and deck lid) lock cylinders that allows the removal or installation. I can't get the button to move. I believe the key must be in the lock and in the unlocked position for the the button to work.
Is this correct or does the key have to be in some other position?

The key must be in and turned 90 degrees to where the slot or groove of the key is below the button then the button can be depressed.
