The next 180A restoration out of Craig Naff's shop
It has been a long road for Black Silver from its founding and excavation out of a sand pit in a Nevada silver mine by Steve Schmauch around 1980. I purchased her in 2011 and put it all in storage waiting for retirement. She came out of storage in 2008 and went to Craig Naff's shop to get in line for restoration. In 2014 the body work was started by Craig...it is now finished...every dent shrunk out, every bullet hole filled, the bent over body bent back 1.2"...rust damaged metal cut out and replaced by metal ... all restored to Ford Engineering drawings and heading to the paint shop for five coats of Proxylin Lacquer...Craig matched my own maniacal compulsiveness (his far more calm than mine) and together I believe we have produced a restoration that is one giant step toward a complete and correct Ford Deluxe Phaeton.
Oh, the driver side fender is not shown in place because I was photographing the top of the frame for a presentation in Niagra that will be the first edition of anti squeak webbing on the frame that is irrevocably correct. You can see what it looked like about ten years ago in my avatar at left...Stay tuned for more as the work on this car continues to completion. Last edited by swo4rd; 06-01-2015 at 10:09 PM. Very very nice work on a very desirable body style. I love when cars are in this stage-it is true artwork, much like sculpture!

Don,
It looks beautiful but then again, I wouldn't expect any less from Craig. You couldn't have found a better guy for the metal work and I can't wait to see it completed! So can we assume from the title that it will be painted black? Deron |

Hi Dan...yes it was originally black with - apple green pinstripes and wheels - and it took a bit of industrial archaeology to find that out. I am using your interior door handles to make wax patterns and to cast a couple of sets in bronze which should serve better than the die cast or pot metal as my beloved grandfather, (Buick Agent in central Texas from 1924 who got me hooked on this insane hobby) would call it. Steve Schmauch recovered the car from a scrap yard in a sliver mine in Nevada which I will elaborate later...but thus the name...Black Silver...
