Re: oversize intake valve
As CA Victoria said Piranoi's sells the 1.70" oversize valves and Charlie Yapp usd to sell a set that was 1.73" dia (Is Yapp still in business). I have used both sizes from both suppliers with no problems. Your block will have to be bored to accept he larger valves, But not a big job to an engine builder with the right equipment.

I also know of a Volvo turbo diesel truck intake valve that is a little over 1.6 with a 30 degree face that is very close to direct fit in original guides from an 80s 6 cyl |

Re: oversize intake valve
The GMC V6 valves from the late sixties can be used. I think it is the small 305 V6 that will work. The best that I remember the head of the valve is about .060 larger than model A . Unless the seats are cracked you won't need to replace them. When you cut the original seats larger you reach better metal and you don't run the risk of replacement seats giving problems, such as lifting out of the block. I don't know all of the details. I had a set installed at a speed shop in one of my engines several years ago before I had any of the special tools to do my own valve work. Larger valves seem to increase the rpm range.

Re: oversize intake valve
Note: If larger valves are used some heads must be modified to clear the valves. The Lion Head III is one for sure.
The new version Lion Head, when it comes out is supposed to be modified to clear a larger valve. http://www.secretsofspeed.com/LION.htm for additional info on size of valves. |
