Plugged holes in floor
While replacing some flooring in my '59 Galaxie I noticed there is a hole with a rubber plug on each front pan. What are they for? You only see the top of the frame when you look through. Any reason I need to add the hole to the new floor.

Re: Plugged holes in floor
'55 and later Ford cars had large rubber plugs on the flat part of the floor (one on each floor pan, for a total of four, two in front and two in back). Earlier models may have had floor plugs also. These were provided for water drainage, but you had to lift up the floorcovering to access them.
Would have been useful for convertible models left out in the rain with the top down, but i doubt anybody bothered popping the plugs to drain the water regardless of sedan, hardtop or convertible. Notice that the repro floorpans you get do not have the drain holes stamped out, nor any body mounting bolt holes. When I put my new floorpans in, I did not bother to punch out drain-holes. |

Re: Plugged holes in floor
I thought they might be for drainage but like you said who is going to remove the pad and carpet to do so. Kind of a weird idea.
