Brake Drums
In Les Andrews book volume two he says use hubs and drums 4 same year. Use 1940-41 drums and hubs on 1939-41 backing plates. Use 1946-48 drums and hubs on 1946-48 backing plates. Why couldn’t you use 1946-48 drums on 1939- 41 backing plates.

Re: Brake Drums
yes, you could use the 39-41 backing plates as long as you used all the other parts [shoes, adjustable anchors, etc] of the same years

Bruce ....Just to be clear, there is NO REASON that the drums cannot be mixed 'n matched. The '42-'48 drums are dimensionally identical to '40 & '41 drums as far as tread width, and as well as with brake shoe alignment. It is not unheard of to find both types of drum on the same car. Go for it! Coop/AMERICAN . |

Is it possible he's talking about for judging reasons? I have '40 backing plates on all four corners and I'm using '42-'48 front drums/hubs and they work as they should. |
