Default Kwikway Model F Boring Bar

Anyone currently using a KW F model boring bar?
I would appreciate your time for a phone conversation to help get me started with a new addition to the shop.

Tim, I own a kwik way model F. So you know there are two models of the F, one with a cutter setting micrometer done off the bar and one where the micrometer is inserted into the bar to set the cutter. I purchased my bar about 20 years ago and it has seen only a dozen or so engine blocks bored. I do want to try my hand at sleeving a block back to standard. PM me for my contact info. Dan

I also have an Kwik-Way F, but I have never used it. I purchased it as a spare, and now after what Dan has said, I should probably look at mine along with the tool kit to see just how the tool in my F is set.

Kwik-Way was about like Ford in they made similar models and used different letters of the alphabet to differentiate. I know they made the F, the FL, FN, FR, FS, FT, and likely several others that I am forgetting. I also included a couple pictures of my red FR unit that has served me well. I wish I knew what the differences were between all of the different models.

I have not found any historical info thus far, my bar was purchased by a friends dad in the late 40s. The serial number is 67something.
What make is the boring bar table? it is a nice fit for the Model A block.

Kwik-Way 054. It is perfect for inline engines as it has a small 'footprint'.

Had several great conversations with Ford Barn members who responded to get me started.
A follow up w/information ....if someone down the road crosses this same bridge.
I found several sources of replacement parts.

Top of the list is Coder Parts & Supply in Tx.
Craig Coder was a Sales person for Kwikway and in 2013 acquired the KW parts inventory when KW dissolved.

Tim, adding to your suggestion, two other great resources for rebuilding Boring Bars is Mark at Lacey Williams. Mark's dad was also heavily involved with Kwik-Way at one time.

Also, Mark Erickson of Erickson Machine & Performance. Here is a YouTube video he made awhile back on boring bars. He also makes some Van Norman 570 parts like cutters.

Thank fellas, Marks video is informative.
cleaned the gearbox and have scrubbed old oil off of the tool, very good shape so far.
made a stand until I can locate a KW or LW manual stand close by.
I will order new belts and bits this week. Hope to test run it soon.

Tim, that bar is a beast! How do you get it moved onto the block? Surely you aren’t man-handling that thing, -or are you?

Smile Re: Kwikway Model F Boring Bar

Agreed my friend way to heavy. I listened to stories of bar mishaps and headed the warnings. My shop space is limited so I built a lift awhile back with a small foot print to lift engine parts on & off of the machines, it is also useful to place my Kurt vices and News rotary table onto the BP mill.
I plan to use a machined knob that threads into a head stud hole and slide the t-slot over as a safety device when storing the bar.
........a “hobby” adventure that keeps on sprouting. The same fella had a complete Kwikway seat cutting fixture that followed me home.
Storing up projects like a squirrel storing nuts for the winter......
