Default 1953 mercury fuse box diagram?

Hey fellas,

So I’m working on a 53 mercury and everything works except the push start button, blinkers, and horn. I’ve checked the fuses on the outer firewall but they all looked good. Anyone have a photo of a diagram so I can help located where the issue is?

Thanks 🤙🏼

The 53 and 52 Mercs I have don't have any kind of a fuse box. Just a little board under the dash with a few fuses on it for the lights. Nothing on the firewall.

Okay, so how do I find out why the push button, blinker, and horn don’t work?

Should be able to track it down with a test light. The starter buttons do wear out and lose contact. Solenoids too. I don't know if this is a new problem that just started in your car or if it has been sitting for ages.

Check here for wiring schematic.
If you have automatic transmission, the neutral safety switch could factor in to the starter button problem.

I have no experience with the 1953 but the earlier 1949 thru 1951 can have any number of problems from bad wiring inside or outside of the steering column to a dirty turn signal switch. The signal stat could also be worn out. If there is a wire shorted to ground then it will likely trip the circuit breaker. Brake lights are also intermingled with the turn signal switch and the horn switch is wired in with all that too. It can be a bear to replace the wiring harness in there but it can be done. If the 1953 had vinyl covered wire then you are lucky. The older ones still have the cloth covered wire and it likes to disintegrate when you try to move it around.

I made myself a tool to wiggle into the terminal block female bullet socket fittings to allow the male bullet to be more easily extracted. It can be near impossible to extract the bullet terminals without some way to expand that female socket terminal.

The car was sitting for 12 years.

If you have original wiring you may not be able to distingush between the wires unless you use a multimeter. No fuse block just some circuit breakers for the headlight/tail lights and miscellaneous fuses. The above schematics should help you out.
