Default Master Cylinder bracket- 39 Pickup

I tore my truck down to the frame last night. The Master Cylinder bracket is busted off.

Does anyone know of a source for a replacement? Someone with a junk frame, or upgraded brakes? I know I can fab one, but would rather just find a replacement.

The master cylinder bracket is part of the brake and clutch. Those are not that hard to find. Should be some in the swap section or ebay.

Not on my truck. It is riveted to the frame.

Maybe post some pictures to see what you have going on; because riveted on is not at all normal for Ford.

What’s left of the bracket. You can see the Clevis for the plunger rod.

I may have just answered my own question. I see that support has two holes in it. I’m guessing someone used that for the master?

I am wondering if this is a 38 frame with a home brewed hydraulic setup.

^^ Yes, it looks like that is the case. The frame and pedals are pre-hydraulic. It might be easier to find a 39 pedal assembly. If you can't find an original one they are available new repro.

If you have a '39 commercial car frame (1/2T) the '39 pedal assembly should fit right in. If its a '38 frame there are modifications that need to be done. Look for the vin number on the top of the frame, drivers side, about 12" forward of the firewall and that will tell you what you have.

This is an original '39 set of pedals. The bracket AND EACH pedal will have a "91A-" prefix in the number on each piece of '39 pedals. DD

Disassembled

It’s a 38 frame. 39 body. 39 juice brakes on the axles.

What will I need to modify to adapt to 39 pedals? Cut the frame?

You will need to enlarge the hole that the clutch/brake shaft goes through now. Below is a template that should help. You will find that the '39 clutch pedal will hit the '38 frame when fully depressed. The '39 frame has a dimple where the clutch arm contacts the frame. You should heat and form one similar so the clutch pedal has full travel. The clutch arm on the transmission will need to be able to reach the pedal linkage that is now farther to the left. There are some offset arms available but I just made up a new longer shaft and used the stock arm. Of course you will need to install a hydraulic brake light switch.

My '39 pedals lined up perfectly with the metal floorboard.

You guys are the best! I really appreciate it.

I’m not new to building cars/machines/tractors etc. Just new to flatheads- I wound up with the 39 pickup, a 50 shoebox, and a 49 parts car within the last year.

.

It sort of looks like you have a pedal assembly already installed, WITH a master cylinder MOUNTED. A '39 assembly would almost surely bolt-in once you remove what is there. Clutch linkage looks just like '39. I see what looks like a '38 "CABLE BRAKE" sheath indicating that truck likely is a '38, and NOT '39.

Is the serial number stamped on the frame rail LOWER than 18-4,661,001?

DD

V8coopman- are you sure you’re not seeing the replies to my post?

I don’t have a master mounted in my truck.
I have a 38 frame with a 39 truck. I have it ironed out and a new 39 pedal assembly on the way.

Someone had my truck body on a “gasp” Chevy chassis.

My brother obtained the frame and body. Then it came across the country to me.

There is a template for slightly hollowing out the frame a bit for a 39 pedal setup on a 38 frame. I looked for it but have not found it yet. Used to come with Bob Drake 39 pedals.

Sure someone could post.

Thank you all.

Got the template. And the right pedal setup on the way. Tearing into it more this weekend.

I’m cleaning and painting the frame. Rebuilding the brakes. New lines. New fuel line and sender.

Then the drivetrain goes in. I have an 8ba with a merc bell and a 39 trans. Got the truck water pumps.
