Default Old picture. Can you id this car?

I was looking on shorpy.com this morning, it's a good site for old pictures if you never been there. Anyway I came across an old picture dated 1932 with a bunch of old cars. This one car has me puzzled.

It looks like it's a model a but its not. The bumpers look like the model a from what I can tell but the wheels are solid and it's a 3 window which is not a model a. It could pass as a model a cabriolet but it doesn't have the cloth top, it looks to be metal.

The car in question is in the bottom left. Google image search for dodge, plymouth, chevy don't match up anything that looks like it. Any ideas on what it is?

A 29 Chevy, good call. An original Stovebolt.

At least there is a Model A in the pic.

Quick googling of 29 Chevs shows them to have painted headlight shells - this one's appear to be plated. Also has cowl lights - wonder if that makes it a "deluxe" (or whatever the Chevy-speak term is)?

Impressive building also - hotel? apartments?

Thanx for the shorpy link - pretty neat site.

Excellent picture quality and some great cars there. Anyone know what the big limo in front of the last taxi cab might be?

Thanks for the id on the car. On the site it says the building is "Shoreham Hotel from across Calvert Street". This was taken in Washington, DC.

Lots of old pictures on that site. http://www.shorpy.com/

From Google

Situated on 11 acres in the beautiful Rock Creek Park in northwest Washington, D.C., this historic hotel has been host to presidents, world leaders and inaugural balls since 1930.

The Chevy could be a '29 or '30 Sport Coupe. The left front wheel hubcap
faintly looks like it may have a painted Chevy bow-tie in the middle. Which
would make it a '30. The '29 Chevy hubcap bow-tie was not painted and spelled out Chevrolet in it. The '30 hubcap was only painted with no wording.

I get people coming up to me often saying "my father/grandfather had a car EXACTLY like yours... except it was a chevy/dodge/etc." So maybe that makes them all Model As? (:

The wooden wheel 3 window coupe looks like a Whippet. What do you think?

What a great picture. Thanks for sharing. Looking at this picture and reading the comments reminds me of something I read on a hot rod forum years ago. Someone stated that they like the old cars because new cars "all look the same".

The repairs on the street look like they could have been done last week! "The more things change, the more they stay the same!"

Yeah, but the arrow on the sign means no parking to the left of it - the Chev is outside the zone...barely!

The sixth car from the building on the nearest side of the semicircular drive appears to be a 29 cabriolet. Or could be a sport coupe - can't tell if it has a visor. Also appears to be a 30 cabbie behind it on the other side of the drive.

Interesting that most of the cars are sedans with a few coupes/roadsters/cabriolets but no phaetons.
