Interesting problem,T-5 to 59A block
In an effort to make the engine selection to the track "t". I used a hogshead TO adapt the tranny to the bellhousing. That way I can use either an early or late block. At present it's time to install the engine and I'm using a Ford 91/2" pressure plate. Now the throw out bearing for the Hogshead doesn't fit the 91/2 clutch fingers. Glad I just saw that!!!??? Stupid factor very hi last week, better now?
I have to make a new throw out bearing adapter. This doesn't look like much of a problem modifying the old one, but my junk box doesn't have the right material to do it. I waz wondering if there was a better way?? Got any ideas?? Gramps |

When i make them. I save the throw bearing collar and front bearing retainer off the T9 the hogs head came from
The T5 collar slips nice inside of it. That way you use the stock flathead throw out bearing. I use the stock 40 pressure plate and redrilled the 8BA fly wheel. Also, the easy way to machine the 1" aluminum spacer adapter plate, mount the T9 colllar to it first , then you have a easy way to hold.it in the lathe to machine the opposite side for the T 5 collar to fit snug. I cut the front half off a junk T5 and use it for a transfer jig for the bolt holes. |

Maybe, i dont have good organization skills with photos in my phone.
Its not rocket science, probably pictures in a google search. Its cheap way if you have the tools otherwise use the speedway adapter but you have to make a bushing for the ford throwout bearing hub to fit the T5 collar. Some kits come with those pieces. |

modified the stock throw out bearing hub with a bushing. However, the early throw out bearing wont work on the 91/2" clutch fingers.. I know how to fix it, but thought there might be an easier way. I'll post apic of the finish assembly. but I don't have a big enough piece of metal

A simple way to adapt a T5 or Tremec to a flathead is use a Lakewood scatter shield and redrill it. It will only work on an 8ba block. Uses all stock parts.

I'll be going down this road as well soon (hopefully. Got the C59A. Got the hogshead bell hsg. Got the Modern Driveline adapter plate for the T5. Got the T5. I did a lot of reading on this more than a year ago, and unfortunately have forgotten most of it, but I do know that for the T5 I picked up, I needed a longer? input shaft. Hadn't got as far as looking into clutches and throw out bearing though.

The adapter for the t-5 is not the issue, it's the throw out bearing with the hogs head with the 91/2" clutch. Picked up a piece of steel and will take pics of the mod. FYI the stock 8ba throw-out bearing fits the T-5 no problem. I've used them on several T-5 instillations.

Ron ..... you don’t think the throw bearing hub is a little loose on the input shaft housing?....it has a bigger ID than the S-10 TO bearing...... Mark

A guess, the 9-1/2" is a 8BA passanger car size. The 50s three speeds had a smaller ID on the throwout bearing like the T5
The early 48 and back throwout bearing that the hogshead uses, does not jive with a 9-1/2" pressure plate .it will work for a short period of time but ruins the bearing I cured it by redrilling the 8BA flywheel to use a 9" clutch |

We'll I don't want to use a 9" clutch. The 9.5 clutch can be beefed up by Indiana clutch to that of the 10" and is substantially lighter. I re-drilled the early flywheel for it. At present I an converting the early throw out hub to use the late bearing,.

I converted my early TO hub to work with a diaphragm style clutch. I would love to see a photo of what you end up with for your hub application.

They were the ones with weights on the fingers.
I used valve springs but don't remember what ones. I had to machine the spring stand OD's down with a hole saw. I would NOT use a clutch with a cast iron base any more, even for street. One blowup in a lifetime is way too many. |
