Default 1932 Grill Shell bezel fit

Wanted to test fit a Vintique grill shell bezel on an original rad shell today. Cap hole isn't concentric with the hole in the shell and the holes are out by almost 3/16. Anybody else experience this? Does Drakes fit original shells better?

The Drake bezel may fit better, but the operative word is "may". I've found that there is a fair amount of variation in the contours of original radiator shells with the result that NOS bezels fit some best, while the Drake versions fit others better than NOS and in at least one case, the Vintique version fit best. On average, the Drake bezel is the better bet between the two different reproductions.

Variances in the stampings on the Vintique grille shell top opening are common. I've had one that was off about a 1/4 inch to the right and others that were centered, suggests that the top stamping is a secondary operation. Still they are what's available so until something better comes along? I agree the Drake Bezel is a better fit.

I've found that most Vintique reproduction parts look beautiful until one goes to install them and they find the part does not fit so good. Almost always.

My experience has been that only original used (re-plated & old plating) or NOS fit original shells without any added body filler on the shell.

In my specific instance it seems that the "nose" of the shell protrudes too far. I am in the process of obtaining a Drake and hopefully an original from a friend for comparison purposes. We will try all three on mine and a couple of his original shells and report findings back here on the Barn. Thank you guys for your information.
