2 Piece oil pan in a '32?
Hey guys.
I have a '40 Merc block going in my '32 but I would like to know if the two piece (truck) oil pan will clear the wishbones or should I stick with the one piece pan. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks |

I i used one with a stock 32 wishbone and it hit. The car also had a reverse eye front spring

If using a stock wiishbone, use the('40-'41) pan that has a inner curve(to the block) at where the starter mounts. That curve allows a little more clearance than the one with the straight edge.

Switch the pan. By the time you cut it to clear and give enough extra clearance for movement your almost all the way through the entire flange. This was in a car with a dropped axle and reversed spring. Not sure how much difference it would be if it was in one with stock suspension

Yes - you want to start with the 'curved' pan - and you may need to heat it and add even more room. This is especially true if you have a lowered spring of any kind. Here are some pictures - just went through this:
Later 59x Pan - with straight area: StraightPan1 copy.jpg StraightPan2 copy.jpg Earlier Pan - with curved area: CurvedPan1 copy.jpg CurvedPan2 copy.jpg Additional Modifications - to prepare for a reversed eye spring: ModifiedPan1 copy.jpg ModifiedPan2 copy.jpg I just used a rosebud torch and a piece of pipe to further contour that area and give more clearance. Good luck! B&S |

I like your modification. A lot easier on the bench to modify just in case than cursing later. Thanks for your pics!
