Gear oil recommendation
What weight gear oil is everybody using in trans and rear end--'55 Ford car with 3 on the tree.

I’m using GL1-140 wt. in my 56 F100 O/D transmission and rear end for the last 42years.

We'll look into that oil when we start working on the F100 next week. The new rotors and wheels from 4Wheelonline for the Wrangler arrived so we can clear the garage this weekend.

Wellcraft, are you trying to quiet down a noisy transmission and rear end? I'm looking at Ford's 1955 Car Shop Manual: "Use Multipurpose-Type Gear Lubricant, S.A.E. 90 for temperatures above -10 [degrees] F. , and S.A.E. 80 for temperatures below -10 [degrees] F. For all manual transmissions "Use Multipurpose -Type Gear Lubricant, S.A.E. 80 for all temperatures."
I'm pretty sure I put 75w-90 in my 55 Dana 44 rear axle. |
