Hi All,

My Father had his 29 roadster pickup radiator to a local old timer Model A guy hoping to have the chronic leak repaired. The guy told him that it is a honeycomb style radiator not tubes. After testing the radiatior, Dad was told that it would cost more for him to re-core it than for him to buy a new one.

So with that back story, we are looking for some advice on the best place to locate a replacement. I'm sure he would be very happy with finding someone selling rebuilt radiators but if that doesn't work out what are the best options for new? Thanks for any directon you are able to provide.

Originally they were tubes not honeycomb. That would have been a replacement. You best bet is to record it as the original frames don’t have a problem with the shrouds like the new ones seem to have. A record should be around $500 with a new one being $6-700 if I remember right.

The best new radiator is from Bergs, anything less would be LESS!

I have a 28 original Roadster and my brother has a 29 original Tudor. Both of us replaced out radiators with a Brassworks Radiator three to four years ago respectfully. No problems, very reliable and highly recommended.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think he is going to get a second opinion on getting his re-cored. He had looked at Brassworks and they are citing a 15-24 week lead time right now. By then we will be settling back into winter here so I think he plans to exhaust the recording option first. He had mentioned an aluminum one as a possibility. I told him I have read about fittament issues with those.

You would also need a sacrificial anode with an aluminum, not to mention mounting the hood, and alignment, and lastly appearance.

I’ve had good luck cleaning round tube original radiators with an industrial hot water pressure washer with degreaser chemical flushing both ways and getting the core good and hot.

Burt’s model A sells a very good recored original. Might give the them a call.
