Removal of headlight switch knob
I am fitting a new headlamp switch to the 1941 Super Deluxe and upon looking at the original unit cannot see how to remove the 'knob ' so I can remove the knurled nut and slip the switch out of the dash.
Does the whole knob and shaft come out of the switch housing as a unit? I thought there may be a small Allen head set screw holding the knob onto the shaft. Thanks John |

Re: Removal of headlight switch knob
John, if your switch is like the one on my 47, there is a slot in the top of it. Stick a small screwdriver in it and turn the screwdriver 1/2 a turn to push the release forward and you should be able to turn the knob 1/2 a turn and pull it out.

Here's a photo of the bottom of the switch that shows the release I mentioned.

Re: Removal of headlight switch knob
Your welcome John. I just replaced mine so the procedure was still fresh in my mind!

Re: Removal of headlight switch knob
The slot is really an oval opening at the base of the L-shaped piece that spans from the top to base of the switch. From the opening, use a small blade screwdriver to compress the metal tab and rotate the keyed shaft for removal.

Re: Removal of headlight switch knob
I just removed the headlight switch on my 51 ford- there is a spring loaded push button on the right hand side of the switch- push this in to remove the knob and shaft.

Re: Removal of headlight switch knob
These were great instructions. You can feel the spring lock stop when you twist the screwdriver. Thanks guys.
