Grill Guard
Finally getting around to trying to install the grill guards on my 40. The holes in the guard don't exactly line up with the holes in the original bumper (the wings I got from C&G do fit). The only solution I see is to heat the guard and bend (ouch).
Any one else have this problem and your solution?? Paul in CT |

Re: Grill Guard
Don't have any idea what the one/s you have look like but on the few I have installed years ago, any bending that was needed to align holes was done COLD.

Re: Grill Guard
Repop guard? If so, you may be well served to loosen the bumper arms at the frame and the bumper bar. Then, after all are loose, install the guard and snug it up. Just snug. Also, snug the outer bumper bar bolts.
Then tighten the arm to frame bolts and only then, go back and tighten the guard and bar bolts.

Re: Grill Guard
I suspect they off a little. However, if they are off a lot, then the guard is most likely bent.

Re: Grill Guard
Have installed several over the years and I can't recall one that did not need a little 'tweeking' ( either spread apart or brought closer together )

Re: Grill Guard
SUCCESS Went to where I used to work part time (took a layoff due to the virus) and we "formed" on of the bumper mounting brackets and expanded the guard about 1/2 in. Now all four holes line up. Will finish up tomorrow. Hopefully the front won't be as much trouble.
Thanks everyone for your widom. Paul in CT |

Re: Grill Guard
Four holes: Four in the bumper, then 2 in the guard to align with center bumper holes.

Re: Grill Guard
Thanks Paul. It appears quite obvious now that there was something bent.
