Amen to that. It's like cutting a diamond. At least the old Jags.

Re: Con rod cotter pin
Many people don't know how to use keys, anymore. They work fine and will not come loose.
You can't install them wrong, and say they don't work. First of all, they have to be 1/8th in size. Many times, it is the wrong size in smaller keys that are used, because a 1/8th key is hard to get into a hole that is not aligned with the rod, so a smaller key is used, and they are sloppy in the key hole. If they don't go in the hole, and half the time they don't, run a 1/8th drill bit through the nut, and rod hole, to clean up the nut towers, and make straight the way. Use 3/4 inch long x 1/8 pins. 1. The nuts should be torqued to 35 foot pounds, and then pulled to line up the nut and rod hole. Install the key so the eye of the pin is side ways of the nut. 2. Tap, not beat, the eye end of the key into the nut tower to set the key eye. 3. Pull the top 1/2 of the key up, and over the end of the rod bolt, and form it down tight with a small hammer, with light taps, as not to smash the key, and still making sure the eye stays tight in the nut slot. 4. Then the other side of the key, bend straight down, and form to the nut tight. Over 50 years, never had one ever come loose. Herm. |

Re: Con rod cotter pin
I appreciate everyone's suggestions.. I'll research the Marsden nuts.. I didn't see any fine metal particulates in the oil I drained or in the oil pan sludge (was only about 1/8" of sludge).. Thanks again
