Default Removing Steering Box in an open car

I have a 29 Phaeton and I need to remove the steering box. After looking at it I think I may be able to pull it out from inside the car without removing the brake and clutch pedal. I can see how this would not be possible with a closed car but can it be done in an open car with the top down?

Thanks
Ron

On my '31 roadster I found I still had to remove the pedals...

I remember it not being very hard to remove the pedals, and it also gives you the opportunity to calibrate the position of both when you put them back on.

I just removed the steering column from my 29 a couple days ago and even with pedals removed it still has to be twisted a little bit to clear. The lower end is heavy and its difficult to take out without losing some paint in the process. Adding some cardboard or some padding in the opening will help keep things from getting scratched up.
