Original Bullitt Mustang(s)
For those who have not heard, both of the long sought-after Bullitt Mustangs have been found. The "stunt" car was found in a junk yard in Mexico. The "hero" car was located in TN and will be at the Amelia Island Concours, Mar. 9-11.

Re: Original Bullitt Mustang(s)
They need to get a set of Calif. Black Plates for the car, the original numbers would be nice I'm sure something could be worked out.
New Jersey plates don't look right on it. |

New Jersey plates don't look right on it." This is where the term "preservation" applies. Did the car ever have California issued black plates ... or was that a movie prop? However it was registered in New Jersey and issued the "BULITT" tags. To some folks historical accuracy is important ... particularly when the cars value is expected to go way into the millions. The car was found with the New Jersey tags. If the REAL movie (prop?) tags were on the car ... yup, that'd work. Would look good. "Restoration" on high-dollar cars is a tricky business. Come on down and see the Bullitt ... and the rest of a great car event at Amelia Island.

Jay Leno copped a ride in the less abused car not long ago and his coments were that it rides and drives like a 50 year old car that has had no repair done to it. I've worked on a few of those old 67/68 390 GT cars and most were pretty well trashed by previous owners. Getting to the engine is a real bear. There isn't much room left in the compartment. |

'From most information out there, the car that was used for most of the stunts is in pretty bad condition. I've seen no photos but the info seems to indicate that it is beyond salvage."
Yes. From what I've read, it was stripped ... no running gear, body panels missing, painted white maybe multiple times. Hard to believe it was found and being "restored." It'll be interesting to watch. I hope to be at the Concours and see the other car in person.
