Thanks to everyone for opinions on value and sales appeal things like the wheels. When advertising the truck I will include picture of the original rims and tires so anyone wanting stock can know they'll get it.

The metal for the seat bolts to the seat stand under the bottom cushion. You will have to take it up to see. Stovebolt forum has all kinds of info on these trucks. The holes were all added for one reason or another but not standard that I know of.

The 42/46 types are desirable since they have a unique front end. My uncle still has two 3/4 ton 1946 models and one was even that same color originally. My older brother and I shared a 53 1/2 ton Chevy and it had the 216 stovebolt with a 3 on the tree. They are very reliable as long as they are well maintained. Many folks put the later 235 6-cylinder engine in them to get the modern bearings. My Pop inherited a 1939 COE that was the first dump bed truck in the county I'm from in Kansas. We used that truck right up into the late seventies before the complicated shifter mechanism started wearing out and my Pop parked it. I wished he had kept the thing. It had been changed to a 235 engine but it pulled a load just fine with the 6 cylinder.
One of the problems you have to watch for is that the motor had the VIN number stamped on and GM didn't stamp the frames. You have to make certain that the title still matches the engine number or there can be trouble getting the title transfer. |

I expect the truck will sell the same way, not just to someone who wants another "toy" but to someone with some emotional passion about it, at least I hope that's the case. Of course, someone that wants to just by it to resell for a profit may also make a low ball offer for it. Who knows. We might even sell it to someone like that.

I would mount those bias ply tires and the primered split rims on it before I drove it in public. Once home I'd paint the wheels black with silver lock rings like expaver's and look for some correct caps.

This is my dream truck.. about 6 years ago, I found one for sale for 10k... all original and restored.. but didn't have the scratch!

Hi; There is always H.A.M.B. The 8 lug trucks are slower to sell. As mentioned. I'm working for two estate sales now and the heirs want BARE walls now! Property is almost immediately For Sale, sad for the friends. Newc

It sold for $15,000 to a really nice guy in Phoenix who drove his car hauler all the way to Utah to pick up the truck and back to Phoenix. About a year later he sent me a picture of it with the stock tires and rims on it in place of the customized wheels that were on it.
