Default Lincoln V12

Help!

Will a 1948 Lincoln V12 bolt up to a 39 Ford three speed?

Thanks.

Very cool! Thanks. I'm getting a complete V12 from Idaho this month and didn't want to pay the big bucks he wanted for the Zephyr side shifter three speed non-overdrive. I have several 39 top loaders and will use one of those with the V12 on a future project.

jm

sounds you're building the 'Hot Rod Lincoln' song car.

in first version it's 'has 12 cylinders and uses 'em all.'

a guy on Ebay has a Ford or Lincoln overdrive tranny

AND a Cadillac La Salle manual trans for sale.

if the ad says Apple Valley, CA and the pictures

show stuff out in a truck yard , that's it.

have fun

To rebuild one around $10,000 to $12,000.

I rebuilt one about 10 years ago doing all the assembly myself and farming out the machine shop work to bore the cylinders, turn the crank, resurface the flywheel and balance and a few other items and the total cost was about $3800. Having someone else do the work will cost $10 to $12,000

I'd rather stick with the V-8. The V-12 has too many issues. The tranny bolts up OK, a lot of V-12's were replaced with Merc V-8's back when.

I have Flathead V8's and a V-12 and I've had a lot more "issues" with the V8's, but that's just my experience...

Hey Frenchy,
Using V12Bill figures, would we be wrong to say that you had someone build your V12..just curious. Could you elaborate on what 'extras' (expensive add ons, if any) that brot that price to 10/12K .

The rebuild depends on how bad the engine is. I can't picture that boring the block and grind the crank and doing a valve job can cost more than a grand or two at most. Also getting the Lincoln trans with OD would be a good way to run this in todays trafic.
