Default 185/80R16 tires

There was a post awhile back about 185 or 195/80R16 tires. I cannot locate any such beast on the web. Can anyone help me by giving me the manufacturer and/or dealer that handles such a thing? My tudor needs new front tires and while I am happy with the 215/70RR16's that are on it, they do look a little wide for the car. Thanks!

Bridgestone ectopia 185/80/16 Is the only tire that I have seen that size, it is a low rolling resistance tire made for hybred/economy cars, I saw it in a Tire Rack catalouge

YES ! I would think that would be the perfect tire for 16" wheels.... they have the 195 tread width and the sidewalls are tall...plus the low rolling resistance is supposed to give better tire mileage... I thnk Yokohama tires also have that sidze... I saw the article about them in some Prius advertisement...

I sure would like to see what they would look like on a wire 16"

I would also like to see a picture or two of the prius sized tires on a Model A. If I were buying a new modern set cheap wheels for a Model A what would the size be for a 16" rim. I have never figured out the bolt measurement part.

Here is a guide to tire sizes. It is on the www.tirerack.com site but there are others.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46

The bolt circle is roughly measured from the center of one bolt to the far side of the opposite bolt.

Cool Hand Lurker ,Whats the correct way to measure a wire wheel rim ? I just bought some used wire wheels and they are supposed to be 16 inch .I hope they are not 17 inch.

I would measure the distance across the wheel between the flanges where the tire bead sits. Not the side of the bead but the bottom. Hopefully this quick drawing will help.

What is neat about these tires is the aspect ratio...the tires are 195 mm across...and the sidewall is 80% of that 195 so they are are tall and somewhat narrow ...but as far as I know they are only 4 ply radials.

It is hard to get an accurate measurement of the tire when it is mounted because you have to allow for the thickness of the wheel steel and any air gap. Here is a simple method that will get you close.
Make yourself a cheap caliper from a piece of wood lath. You can measure from the outside of the wheel with the caliper and then just measure the caliper.
My 16" wheel on the car measures 15 1/2" so if yours measures 16 1/2" it probably is a 17" wheel. Sorry.

I got the shaft ,Guy at swap meet said they were 16 inch.I guess I'm just to use to trusting people .They are easy to measure when they are not on the car ,no tire on'em ,just measure from the back side,I should carry a measuring tape.I believe they are 17 inch.Live and learn, even at 75 years, Thanks for the picture .

Be sure to use inner tubes with the 16" wheels and not go tubless as I did. They worked well for several yrs and then in a rain storm the truck spun a bit but also lost the air on both the right side wheels in seconds (bead brook loose) and I then went in a worse spin and hit a wall. Frame is bent and will require some work to repair. Iceman

Take your wheels down to the tire shop and have them measure the size just to be sure.

Jim, Did you buy the tires? I am dying to see what they look like on 16" wheels...they sound like the perfect tire ...tall and narrow...plus the Low Rolling Resistance sounds good.... I plan on driving my A most of the winter here in the mountains so I need some winter tires.

Jim.
I have the Bridgestone Ecopia EP2 195/80 R16 tires on my Model a pickup They are great. The diameter is 28.2 they are low rolling resistant. The tires are marked for electric car use only.Rav 4 The max load is 1609 lbs rim width is 5.5 to 6.5 inches. I have used these tires for 3 years now and I am really happy with them. I also have installed the monro -matic shocks part number 31089 out of a volkswaggon beetle the combination is fantastic.
