Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
If the engine number is correct, that is a Dec 27 engine.

Why does the good stuff always end up being all the way across the country from me? If anyone here buys this car I would be very interested in knowing the body number and a few other details regarding the subrails. Dean, this car isn't too far from you. You need another restoration project now that A495 is finished? |

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
If I was considering this one I'd sure insist on a photo of the engine number unless he states there is no "A" in the number. Notice he wrote "3180" not "A3180". To me, the number boss looks to be too long even for an early '28 block.

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
I thought the very same thing and had him email me a photo of the engine pad. It is indeed a restamp, so who knows what the original number is. The car definitely does have its share of VE features though. He's supposed to be looking for a body number now and I'll post a followup if I hear anything. Sadly, it'll probably end up as a rat rod...

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
That would be reasonable for an engine number of 3180. Given all of the external engine components that are correct for that engine number range (starter, distributor, intake, oil pan, etc.) I'd imagine that it's a car that had a short block swapped early on and the original engine number restamped onto the new block. I wouldn't be surprised if A3180 was actually the original number of the car but the block pic he sent me was obviously a restamp. Per, what's the body number on your car? Restamp using the original number?

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
Sure seems possible. Many of the parts on the car, as well as the body number would point to a car in the range of A3180. I'd find it to be an awfully strange coincidence if that were just some random number that someone happened to stamp on the block, but the only way to know for sure would be to lift the body and hope for a legible engine number on the frame.

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
It's somewhat a moot point. The original engine is much of the value. It could be very useful to someone with just a low digit engine or someone that has a very early car where too much was "updated'. Essentially the value is in whatever parts are left.

Re: Early 28 Tudor on Ebay
There seem to be a lot of early parts on this car but at the same time, a lot that are not correct. Jim, the front cross member by this number should be the one piece. I see that the rear engine mounts are not the early type. If it is in fact 3180, it went to production the day before my A3261. With that, it should have the on-off-dim light switch the open bail light switch, which it does not, plus some other unique VE-28 items. Regardless, it is still a neat Tudor and could be a great project for someone wanting an early 28 car.

Auction ends in about 50 min..
$2175.00 doesn't seem to bad for a parts car around here. Guys ask more for just bodies. |

I'd like to see the progress pictures if someone here bought it. Remember that pile of parts Scott in Alabama restored in less than a year. This car is three times better than what Scott started with, and Scott did a nice job. Scott Owens seems to have vanished. The last I knew he was just starting a TT restoration, for his dad I think.
